Elise celebrated daddy's birthday by drinking from the bottle for the SLP again today. They watch her ability to suck, swallow and breathe during the feedings. They also evaluate her tongue position to make sure it's accurate and that she isn't pushing out the bottle. The nurse monitors her respiration and heart rate while this is all taking place to make sure that Elise is not in distress from the feeding. She passed!
She should now be able to take a small amount by mouth once a day. Once she proves she can handle that consistently, the amount will increase. We are praying for continued good experiences with the feedings so she does not develop an aversion.
